THE EXPEDITION TO VASYUGAN
MIRE LAUNCHED A NEW RESEARCH PROJECT
In September 2018, scientists from Tomsk State University (TSU), the State Scientific Institution ‘Siberian Research Institute of Agriculture and Peat of Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences’ and Institute of Monitoring of Climatic and Ecological Systems (IMCES SB RAS), as well as
representatives of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) and Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU) took part in the scientific workshop and expedition to Vasyugan Mire (Vasyugan research station).
In frame of the workshop, Mateusz Grygoruk (SGGW) and Tom Kircshey (NABU) presented the reports on the global role of peat bogs in climate change and research on the elements of Vasyugan Mire’s water balance. Valery A. Zemtsov (TSU) reported on climate change trends in Western Siberia. Egor A. Dyukarev (IMCES SB RAS) presented a report on primary production and respiration of mires ecosystems in Western Siberia.
In frame of the expedition, scientists continued the study of Vasyugan Mire’s hydrological regime. This research was started in 2017. The results of the workshop and expedition became the base of a new research project concerned the study of Vasyugan Mire’s water balance.
