SECNET TOOK PART IN THE
POST ANNUAL RECEPTION 2019
On January 29, the representatives of SecNet took part in POST Annual Reception 2019, organized by the British Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology. This event was held in Portcullis House and included an exhibition, where SecNet and the TSSW Research Center were represented. The participation of SecNet in this event is an indicator of the topicality of research conducted by SecNet scientists.
Among the invited participating organizations were the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), the Center for Polar Observation and Modeling (CPOM), the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Polar Regions (APPG Polar Regions), the Scientific Committee for Antarctic Research (SCAR), the International Network for Terrestrial Research and Monitoring in the Arctic (INTERACT) and other. SecNet was the only participant that presented to colleagues the possibility of organizing international scientific projects in Siberia and the Russian Arctic.
The topic of event was the science diplomacy, and the participants discussed issues concerned the relations between science and diplomacy.
The first part of this event was the panel discussion moderated by Lady Joyce Anelay, a Member of the House of Lords. Invited experts made reports, and then participants of POST Annual Reception 2019 asked questions to experts. Professor Carole Mundell, Chief Scientific Adviser at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, was among the experts.
The next part of this event was the workshop "Polar Science", where Professor Dame Jane Francis, director of the British Antarctic Service, and Sir David Attenborough, a broadcaster and naturalist, were the main speakers.
The exhibition was held at the same time as panel discussion and workshop and the representatives of SecNet presented research directions and infrastructural capabilities of network. Also, BAS and SecNet have discussed the opportunities to implement joint projects in Siberian territory and beyond.
